- Soccer. The league meetings this season were split with KCCA claiming a 3-1 first round win before Vipers edged a 3-2 thriller. Vipers are hungry for a double.
The joint pre-match press conference ahead today’s Stanbic Uganda Cup final between Vipers and KCCA saw the respective coaches Miguel Da Costa and Mike Mutebi settle on a couple of things.
That the 44th edition of the Uganda Cup final is being contested by two of the best sides in the country.
“We have prepared well,” said Mutebi during the press conference held at Fufa House in Mengo on Thursday.
“For me, it’s a pleasure to see arguably the best teams in the country playing the final. There is no doubt about that.”
Both coaches also agreed that neither side will sit back in the game that will be hosted at the Emokori Grounds in Bukedea.
“So if the two games that happened between us, the two teams scored nine goals or 10 goals in the past two matches and you are asking if I will be defensive, it is not a real question,” Da Costa added.
The league meetings this season were split with KCCA claiming a 3-1 first round win before Vipers edged a 3-2 thriller.
Vipers are seeking a first ever league and Cup double having won the league last month.
The last meeting saw Vipers also impose a physical approach that was best exemplified by midfielder Taddeo Lwanga to give them the advantage before KCCA’s attempted fightback.
His return to the side having missed the 1-0 semifinal second leg victory over SC Villa through suspension should give Da Costa a selection headache with Geoffrey Wasswa impressing in his role.
Duncan Sseninde and Moses Wasiwa will be tasked with creating the goals for Erisa Ssekisambu, Milton Karisa and league top scorer Dan Sserunkuma.
KCCA are meanwhile the current cup holders and did the double last season but will be without left back Mustafa Kizza while striker Derrick Nsibambi has since completed a move to Egypt.
Patrick Kaddu however appears to have finally found his footing getting four goals in the 10-0 aggregate semifinal win over Synergy in the previous round to become the competition top scorer with seven goals.
Julius Poloto is expected to return according to Mutebi and should slot in midfield alongside Sadam Juma and Allan Okello with Muhammad Shaban ahead of them.
