Mbarara. It’s a measure of Kibuli’s fall from grace in the recent past. On the 25th anniversary of the Copa Coca-Cola schools cup after they made history as the first team to win the tournament today, the 10-time winners cannot proceed from the group.
The 1-1 draw between Nakaseke and Buddo was the final nail in their coffin despite winning 9-0 against Sebei. Kibuli were last ejected in the group stages in 2013 in Kabale. But their record will remain intact as only Kitende, with 8 titles can narrow the deficit.
The trophy has been shared amongst 9 schools. The others are; Kibuli (10), Kitende (8), Old Kampala (2), Buddo, Jinja SS, Nankyama, Ngabo, Lubiri and St Leo’s Kyegobe.
Nakaseke’s anti football tactics against Buddo will hurt as they join a cast of fallen giants to head home. Masaka, Royal Giant and Kawempe Muslim are the other defeated Goliaths.
Thomas Kabaale gave Nakaseke an early lead which could have upstaged Ryakasinga but Emmanuel Loki’s late winner ensured the 2009 champions emerge group leaders.
Agape’s hopes were hanging by a thread but a 2-0 win over Zzana booked them a ticket into the last 16 over Paidha.
