Kampala. At the end of the National Schools Table Tennis Championship at Mbogo Mixed Secondary School in Kawanda Saturday night, all the three schools under the Mbogo group had a mention in team and individual honours.
Mbogo High School, a girls-only school based in Kawempe, dominated the girls’ category and bagged the overall trophy when they defeated the hosts Mbogo Mixed SS in team events.

The visitors were equally efficient in individual performance, no wonder the girls’ U19 singles final was between Florence Seera and Rita Nakumitsa both from the same school.

In the boys’ team events, Mbogo College School defeated first-timers Joy Secondary School, Mbale 3-0 thanks to the ruthless Idd Watsotsi, among others. Watsotsi first beat Joy’s Moses Palao 3-0 in the boys’ U19 singles final, then immediately again in the last match of the team’s events.

Homeboy Ali Ssentamu of Mbogo Mixed SS was voted the most valuable player (boys) of the tournament sponsored by Hariss International while his schoolmate Ivy Nekesa lost the trophy to Amina Namaganda of Mbogo College in one of the most thrilling matches of the day.

Kololo Secondary School’s Flavia Amaniyo won the U14 girls’ category while Mbogo Mixed’s Harrison Ssemambo won the boy’s group. Kitante Hill School drove back home empty-handed. Robert Jjagwe, the head of the Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) commended the passion and the talent that filled the sprawling hall and said such tournaments will help greatly in building a strong Juniors’ national team.
