As Uganda Cranes shift from Rabat to Marrakesh today, head coach Sebastien Desabre is assured that his team has not only acclimatized to the Moroccan chilly weather - after a week’s stay - but has also got a true test of what to expect in the Chan tournament.
On Tuesday night, the Frenchman registered his first loss as Cranes coach after Congo beat Uganda 1-0 in Rabat but he remained upbeat about the daunting task ahead.
“We played a good Congo team. Some players got less minutes but it was good for the preparations,” Sebatien said after the match.
Cranes take on Zambia in the opening game of group B on Sunday and the coach envisages a much changed display then.
“We are going to have good rest and we can now focuse on the competitive game (against Zambia),” he added.
The 41-year-old made two changes to the team that started against Guinea with Ismail Watenga replacing Benjamin Ochan while Muzamir Mutyaba came in for Moses Waiswa.
“Today (against Congo), it was two faced - a nice first half in which we had one or two chances to score then second half like against Guinea which was also was difficult for us.” Guinea, earmarked to give Cranes a first-hand feel of the West African football they are to encounter against Ivory Coast, held Sebastien’s charges to a 1-1 on Saturday.
“We are not looking at the results from the friendly games but how they have prepared us. They have been very good for preparations ahead of next the game,” said the former Asec Mimosas, CS Garoua, ES Tunis, Desportivo Libolo, Dubai Club, JS Saoura and Ismaily coach. After proving to be a main stay in Sebastien’s plans, KCCA deep lying playmaker Sadam Juma says the team is gradually adapting to the new coach’s changes.
“We tried to get goods results but we failed in the second game.
“We have tactically improved under the new coach as we try to get along with the tactics he gives us. The boys are positive despite the loss against Congo,” Sadam remarked.
“By Sunday, we will fix all that we failed to do. The mistake that brought about the goal will be corrected when we face Zambia.”
