If SC Villa manage to end their 14- year league title drought, they will look back upon a stellar home record that has seen them pick 12 of their 16 wins on home turf this season.
But with only one of their remaining four fixtures at Masaka Recreation Ground, the 16-time league champions must improve their away form drastically if they are to land the Holy Grail.
That starts this evening when they travel Bombo to face wounded UPDF.
The Jogoos are second on the log with 53 points after 26 games and know only a win will help their cause with four games to wrap up the league season.
They started the weekend two points leaders Vipers who hosted Police at Kitende yesterday.
“We shall fight till the end,” was his response after Wednesday’s 2-0 home win over Kirinya-Jinja ended a two game winless sequence.
His team’s task however appears enormous as they play a UPDF side that is wounded after being docked three points for fielding an ineligible player Sulaiman Majanjalo who served only one of his two game suspension.
Despite now languishing second from bottom and in the three relegation spots, the army side is unbeaten at home in the second round in a seven-game unbeaten home sequence that stretches into last December.
They will however be wary of Villa trio Martin Kizza, Allan Kyambadde and Ambrose Kirya who boast not only creativity but also goals. Kizza in particular has contributed 10 of Villa’s 28 league goals thus far.
UPDF’s predicament has on the other hand brought renewed optimism for their relegation rivals with the army side now on 26 points from 27 games.
The tally is level with Proline and former champions Express but the pair have a better goal difference and have played a game less.
Express could consequently go three points clear of the dreaded zone with victory over URA at Namboole with UPDF and Proline who faceoff with Proline all fail to win.
The bottom six sides are now separated by four points with basement side Masavu on 24.
