KAMPALA- The name Aziz Damani has primarily been synonymous with the game of cricket. But that will be no more after Aziz Damani pumped up the volume ahead of the National Volleyball League Playoffs with a cash tonic of Shs50m.

The business end of the elite national competition serves off today at the Sport-S Ground in Nsambya with 32 teams from the three tiers – Serie A, B and C wrestling for the right to play in the coveted finals.

Hence the timely relevance of the sponsorship from the Aziz Damani, who also facilitates two cricket clubs; Aziz Damani CC; Masaka SS Ladies CC; as well as a first division football side Katooke United FC. The sponsorship package earned the league a new name - The Aziz Damani National Volleyball League Playoff Series 2017 and includes refreshments, warm-up kits, trophies, medals, officials’ wear, referees’ allowances and match balls among others.

“This is a new one for us. But not that we didn’t think about it,” Shenaz Damani, wife to Aziz Damani said about sponsoring volleyball during the breakfast launch held at D’Mellos Restaurant located at the Indian Association of Uganda premises in Kampala.

“My husband played volleyball and would like to sponsor all sports. And we are happy to give back. We hope this partnership will yield many more good things,” she said.
Aziz was also elated at the reception given by the volleyball fraternity. “Volleyball is such an amazing sport. We acknowledge that it hasnot been well supported. And now we hope the sport can gain the glory it deserves,” said Aziz.

Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) president Hadijah Namanda couldn’t stop thanking the Aziz Damani family as well as anticipate a looming action-packed series.
“To Aziz and Shenaz, I cannot thank you enough. We have been begging many sponsors and they kept promising us. But when we talked to Aziz Damani Sports Club CEO Siva Koti, he didn’t think twice.

He looked at our budget once and said can you please add a few more things and we shall be good to go,” revealed Namanda.
Koti also promised the volleyball fraternity that he would woo the Aziz Damani family to offer more next time if they show good organisation, accountability and the teams exhibit good standards on court.
