Hello Paul, thank you for your consistent motoring advice. We are planning our annual road trip with the children. My younger twins aged five feel uncomfortable when wearing the seat belts. Can the twins be safe without the seat belts if seated in the back seat? Catherine

Hello Catherine, the younger children will not be safe when they are not harnessed to their seat despite being in the back seat. God forbid, in the unlikely event of a frontal crash or a rollover accident the two young children who are unbuckled or not harnessed with seat belts may suffer severe injuries or worse be ejected through the front windscreen or side windows.
Most accident fatalities worldwide and in Uganda, are a result of not buckling up. To help the younger children be comfortable under the seat belt, you need to get them approved child seats which raise their profile and make them more comfortable and safe when they wear the seat belt or buckle up.
