In Summary
  • Basketball. Today’s game put new UCU Canons coach Samuel Lukaire under the spotlight, in for Nicholas Natuhereza who is away till next season on a coaching course in Germany.

KAMPALA. Up to two seasons ago, a game between KIU Titans and UCU Canons would be a display of domestic basketball’s brightest prospects as both universities offered the bait of scholarships.
That has since changed with KIU Titans opting to shop from neighboring countries for experienced non university players.
They will thus start as favourites for the game having accrued a 12-4 record.
Coach Hamza Nyambogo though will be keen for his side to avoid complacency that saw the Titans subjected to their latest defeat, a 68-65 loss by Ndejje.
Guard Chris Omanye is averaging a league high five assists while Ethiene Kazungu is only behind Michael Makiadi, Steven Mwesigye and Emmanuel Okumu in the rebounding stats.
On their day, the Titans ball movement is some of the best in the league and are coming off an 86-30 blowout win over Sharing Youth on Monday.
UCU Canons on the other hand come into the game with an 11-4 sequence but suffered a surprise 75-68 reverse against struggling Falcons.
Like the 61-48 first round win over four-time champions City Oilers showed they can match any top team in the league on their day.
The game will also further put new coach Samuel Lukaire under the spotlight. Lukaire stepped up following the departure of Nicholas Natuhereza who is away till next season on a coaching course in Germany.
Pemba Warriors who have lost only twice in 15 games this season and widely considered as the best team in the regular season thus far play an unpredictable Ndejje that was swept aside 92-50 by City Oilers.
