KAMPALA. A strong foreign legion is expected to participate in this year’s Entebbe Ladies Open thus offering a stun test to the defending champion Irene Nakalembe, who has won the tournament for the past three years in a row.
This was revealed by Entebbe Golf Club (EGC) chairman Dr. Tumbweine Twinemanzi during the unveiling of Castle Lite’s sponsorship package towards the annual golf event, scheduled for March 2-3 at the par-71 challenging course.
“We are set for perhaps the most exciting tournament in recent history. We are encouraged by the response from elite players in neighbouring countries. They will add a significant level of competitiveness,” said Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) president Maximillia Byenkya.
Castle Lite has committed a Shs20m package and the brand manager Julian Ssentamu echoed the brand’s continued investment in golf for the foreseeable future; acknowledging that the relationship is symbiotic. “Golf has given Castle Lite a perfect platform to be established and grow.
“As a refreshingly extra cold brand, we offer golfers the perfect 19-hole experience. It’s this experience that we again promise to bring when the Entebbe Ladies Open tees off,” said Ssentamu.
Britam, have also chipped in to event’s success with a Shs10m cash package and will also unveil the new scoreboard at the club that cost them Shs14m.
The CEO of Britam Allan Mafabi stated that they have enjoyed a good partnership with EGC through the sponsorship of the Entebbe Ladies Open and other events for the last three years.
The mode of play will be gross for the ladies of handicap 16 and below for the main event that will be played over 36 holes.
The subsidiary category will play under the nett format over 18 holes.
The men will join the ladies on day two for the subsidiary event and will be playing off the ladies tee boxes as they have traditionally done so over the last six years to add glamour to the game.
At least 200 golfers will take to the challenging course during the event.
