In Summary

Doreen Mwesigye and Wendy Angudeyo were beaten by Tim Mawanda and Ssuubi Kiwanuka 2/1 (2-up with a hole to spare) whereas Martha Babirye and Moureen Okura didn’t survive Charles Odere and Samuel Kato via the sudden-death play-off.

KAMPALA. The gender imbalance factor swung in at the Entebbe Singleton Challenge Championship after the last two female pairings were eliminated during the quarterfinals last month.

And now, the first time in two years, the Singleton Challenge won’t have any ladies when the semifinals take place at the par-71 course in Entebbe today.
This last happened in 2017 when Okura and Irene Nakalembe were eliminated at the last 16 stage.
Now the quest for the coveted honours as well as a trip courtesy of RwandAir to the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic due January, 2020 is down to four all-male pairings.

Each of these lions would love to roar and conquer the den whose contests wrap up with a finale next month.
Odere and Kato hope they can continue their fairytale run that has already seen them eliminate 2018 winners Peace Kabasweka and Sheila Kesiime when they meet Richard Lutwama and Robert Busingye.
“It is an opportunity to go really far,” said Kato, who plays off handicap three. Odere plays off handicap 18 and it is this blend which helps them mitigate stroke deficits, if any, against low handicappers.
Lutwama and Busingye are no mere pushovers. They did their part to eject Silver Rugambwa and Ashraf Bagalana 1-up via the sudden-death play-off and their progress grants them the underdog tag.

In the second semifinal, Mawanda and vocal Kiwanuka meet Andrew Atuhaire and Geoffrey Orach in another unpredictable contest.
But one thing is assured though: Kiwanuka will conquer the 19th Hole party themed Las Vegas should his pairing triumph and secondly, his smile won’t fade amid mockery at dusk should the result go otherwise.
