KAMPALA. “For the love of the game,” is the catchphrase associated with online betting company Betway.
Going by the latest developments, one could also add the company’s love for the local football game.

The online betting company and six-time league champions Express FC yesterday announced a Shs400m a season partnership at a colourful function held at Hotel Africana.

“Betway’s strength as a sponsor comes through sports development. Our previous engagements with our previous partners proves that beyond reasonable doubt. Helping clubs fulfill their potential is also one of our biggest strengths,” Betway country manager Adellah Nyaruhuma stressed.

Betway also bankroll rugby giants and newly crowned Uganda Cup champions Kobs and five-time National Basketball League champions Power among others.

The partnership, the fourth Express has brought on board this season, will see the company take over naming rights at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium as well as being the club’s main kit sponsors.

“There is a much bigger picture than the Shs1.2b over three years that Betway is offering us. Betway comes with cash, knowledge transfer and technical support,” Express chairman Kiryowa Kiwanuka explained.

The company will also be able call on the management expertise forwardzone a sports agency that previously helped secure trial opportunities to Muhamad Shaban and Rashid Toha.

Since returning to the club, New Express chairman Kiwanuka Kiryowa, has vowed to restore the club’s lost glory after years of mismanagement that culminated into narrowly missing out on relegation last season.

“The partnership will benefit us greatly. There is also a lot of excitement among the players but we have to channel it the right way especially ahead of the game against a big team tomorrow,” Express coach Kefa Kisala noted ahead of today’s game against champions Vipers.
