KAMPALA. Abashweki will hope to retain their title when the Ntare School Old Boys league kicks off its 10th edition at Gems Cambridge this morning.
The league that brings together teams from Ntare School’s heritage that stretches over 60 years, is an on-going initiative that allows Old Boys come together as a networking avenue through sport.
In the league, teams face each other once before capping off with a final that is played between the first and second placed teams.
Placement games are also held prior to the final to get everyone involved in the final match day festivities.
Nine player per side
Teams field nine players with unlimited substitutions and each football game is 60 minutes long. The league is expected to run for a period of 17 weeks.
Last season’s finale between ‘Nshera’ and ‘Abashweki’ was a close affair that ended goalless in normal time but was eventually won for the latter with a penalty kick by Season Nine Most Valuable Player Emmanuel Mukama.
Over 1,500 people were in attendance that day including Ntare School Old Boy and Sheema North Member of Parliament Elioda Tumwesigye as well as League Hall of Fame Inductees Herbert Bashasha and Abraham Mpumwire awarded for their outstanding service to the league.
