- Basketball. It promises to be a new beginning for the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA), as the outspoken Nasser Sserunjogi assumes the office of president, replacing Ambrose Tashobya.
Kampala. Nasser Sserunjogi will for the next four years lead the domestic basketball federation Fuba after a commanding victory over Grace Kwizera in elections held yesterday.
Sserunjogi polled 37 of the 61 votes cast with Kwizera collecting 24 to replace the outgoing Ambrose Tashobya who served three terms since 2011.
“It was about the program that I presented. My theme of this campaign was grassroots development. I believe in grassroots because I think it is the foundation of the growth of every sport in this country,” Sserunjogi responded when asked where he thought the election was won.
Sserunjogi who is also the KIU Titans supremo served on Tashobya’s last eexecutive committee having defeated Patrick Ogwel to the post of Vice President in charge of administration in 2015. He floored Kwizera this time round in what was initially seen as a close contest that raised the visibility of the game.
The latter has also been serving as Vice President Publicity for a year after replacing Ivan Ntabazi who relocated.
“I congratulate the new executive. It is a time to reflect about what happened. But I am still ready to serve the game,” Kwizera conceded.
“Its our responsibility to grow this game together. Let’s turn up in big numbers even for meetings.
I can promise that we shall work together for the projects that are there Junior NBA, national teams,” Sserunjogi added as part of his acceptance speech. Widely seen as a highly knowledgeable figure in basketball circles, he speaks of a collective approach to issues.
